One of the criteria that the Captain had for the HQ
was that it have more than 1 “layer” of defense.
The tower is part of that, and runs on it’s own schedule,
independent of the rest of the defenses.
There are 9 soldiers who man the tower, taking the
watch in turns of three, and they stay on duty in the
tower for a week at a time. During that week, they
don’t leave the tower, or even unbar the door. Food
and supplies are brought in once a week during the shift
change, and the rest of the time, the tower is sealed.
