Trigonometric Racers Challenge

Description

The following is a text description of the course. For full details and a course diagram send an e-mail to Rich Jenkins.

The course is set up as follows:

There are three 2 ft. X 2 ft. areas labeled “A”, “B”, and “C”. The areas are marked using black electrical tape.

Area A is in the room, away from the walls.

Area B is against a wall and a line perpendicular to the wall bisects areas A and B. In other words, the line from the center of Area A to the center of Area B makes a right angle (90 degrees) with the wall.

Area C is in the corner of the room, to the left of Area B as you stand in Area A.

The distance from the center of Area A to the center of Area B is d1. The distance from the center of Area B to the center of Area C is d2. The distances d1 and d2 will be determined by the judge on race day.

There are also some ‘cones’ between Areas B and C at 1 ft intervals, 2ft from the wall.

So, Areas A, B, and C make a right triangle ABC with C in the corner of the room, B against the wall, and A out in the room. Once again, if you need a diagram, e-mail me!

Three Challenges

The contest has three difficulty levels to inspire builders of all levels to play. The contests are timed using a stopwatch held by the judge.

Easy

Start inside Area “A”. Stop with any portion of your robot inside Area “B”.

Medium

Start inside Area “A”. Pass any portion of your robot through Area “B”. Proceed to Area “C” and stop with any portion of your robot inside area “C”. You are disqualified if your robot disrupts any ‘cones’.

Hard

Start inside Area “A”. Pass any portion of your robot through Area “B”. Pass any portion of your robot through area “C”. Your robot is disqualified if you disrupt any cones. Proceed to area “A” and stop with any portion of your robot inside area “A”.

Other Stuff

Trial courses will be set up at the January and February HRMUG meetings.

The actual contest will be held the last Saturday in March, subject to location availability.

Official entry requires a purely LEGO construction and an entry fee as outlined in the rules.
