Vaughan James ("Stress or legovaughan")
Favorite LEGO toys/themes: Mostly Classic Space and some Town or City, Exo-Force got me back into Lego in '05/'06 (after a Dark Age of 17 years), but really anything Sci-Fi related. I do own quite a few Technic sets and a Mindstorms 2.0 kit I haven't really explored much.
My fascination with LEGO began... when I was 6 or 7 years young.
I once built... a fully functioning mini-fig version of the Thundercat's Thundertank!
Someday I will build... a massive spacecraft or ubercool reverse-leg mech! Or perhaps even revisit the Thundertank some day...
LEGO is great because... the possibilities are only limited by your imagination! The exacting quality and vivid colours of the bricks still fascinate me every time I build something. It's not just the product (the bricks) but the examing of the box, the opening of the polybags, the build process and the discovery of building techniques, through to enjoyment of the finished model and of course, the swooshing about!
LEGO fans are great because... they share! They're also very resourceful (obsessed? never!) - how many other hobbies have such a meticulous set of resources as LUGnet,
Peeron, Brickshelf, MOCpages and so on?! Lego rules, OK? =)
My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: Computer gaming, (simulators, VR, FPS, racing, flying etc.) and micro R/C toys.
My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Science and Technology, building the future today, street art (grafitti and stenciling), modern architecture, turbo charged cars with massive stereos, I could go on and on...
My favorite Foods: Fine sashimi and sushi trains, restaurant quality Asian food (not the takeaway variety), fettucine with creamy mushroom and garlic sauce, gourmet burgers and exotic pizza, and a golden pilsner or three on Sunday afternoons.
My favorite Movies & TV: The Alien trilogy (my jury is still out on IV - why was Giger not involved - that monster was ridiculous!), Blade Runner (still so good), Buckaroo Banzai (Weller is the man, Goldblum, Christopher Lloyd and John Lithgow are legends of all time), Barbarella (so much goodness in one film, De Laurantis was visionary), Tank Girl (Lori Petty's just the girl you want), Samurai Pizza Cats (impossible to track down info on!), American Dad, Futurama (Groening's finest work), The Maxx (schizophrenic brilliance and seamless style blending), Ninja Scroll (mindshifting), Spirited Away (an animated acid trip for the soul), Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion (close to a religious experience) and Robotech/Macross (responsible for sowing the seed of an unnatural love for machines and technology) and of course the Matrix trilogy, for being a whole new universe of sci-fi (the Wachowski Bros. gave a disconnected generation a whole new framework for a new philosophy of existence)...
My favorite Artists: Ali and Sharam from Deep Dish, Pet Shop Boys, Massive Attack, Klute, our local scene DJs (they know how to play to a fussy local crowd)...
My favorite Music: My collection varies from flute and percussion jazz through to dark angry drum 'n' bass, but mostly it's all really good thumping house music, lots of Deep Dish and DJ mix sets, plus plenty of downtempo beats like Big Bud, Thievery Corporation and Kruder & Dorfmeister.
My favorite Pets & Animals: I had a Dobermann Pinscher called Heidi when I was younger. I miss her.
Words which best describe me: I know a little about a lot of things and far too much about far too few.
I love it when... you find a 50% markdown on a set you woudn't normally buy.
I can't seem to get enough... cash to buy new Lego and time to build!
I always seem to have enough... of the wrong parts.
I hope I always... have friends to enrich my life and keep me company on the strange and unpredictable road of life.
I wish I could... throw massive birthday parties for my friends.
I could never... sell my Lego.
I hope I never... sell my Lego!
I wish I hadn't... lost a couple of friends along the way.
In my craziest moments... I have to grin widely and say to myself, this is totally crazy! Try to remember this so you can tell someone about it!
If I were super-human... I'd probably leave Earth crestfallen and depressed; it seems these puny humans are hellbent on destroying themselves. Just imagine the possiblities for their future if they just stopped bickering and killing each other over who owns what, where we came from and who's really running the show. We're here now, we may as well make the most of it!
More & Less: - more Peace., less Anger.
- more Understanding., less Lies.
- more Humanitarians., less Lawyers.
Rules I try to live by: - Keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open and you'll be amazed at what you can learn.
- Keep a cool head and do good for others.
- Happiness is more rewarding than wealth.
