Derek Schin ("dbol")
Favorite LEGO toys/themes: A bit of everything really; I'm a pluralist.
My fascination with LEGO began... Christmas 1978--received 493, Space Command Center (with non-prefab craters) and I was hooked.
Someday I will build... a minifig-scale Tantive IV (Rebel Blockade Runner).
LEGO is great because... you're limited only by your imagination!...er, wait, no, I guess you're actually limited by the bricks that the company releases and how much money you have. My bad.
LEGO fans are great because... they're fans of LEGO?
My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: My motorcycles--a Ducati HM 1100 and a BMW R1150RT.
My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Rock climbing; reading; playing basketball; card games; weightlifting.
My favorite Foods: Anything that won't immediately kill me.
My favorite Movies & TV: Any Wes Anderson, Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, or Coen Bros movie (Rushmore, Clerks, Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski).
My favorite Artists: I'm hijacking this spot for my favorite authors...Neil Postman, Isaac Asimov, Michael Stackpole, Brian Michael Bendis, and C.J. Cherryh.
My favorite Music: Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Cake, The Postal Service, The Shins, The White Stripes, Weezer, Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio.
Words which best describe me: patient (well, actually more like lazy, but it usually looks the same); perceptive; (over) self-confident; good-natured; athletic; easy-going; happy.
I hope I always... can keep from using cliches like "never grow old" or "always keep learning."
I hope I never... fall down a garbage chute and land on top of a midget wearing an Easter Bunny costume who takes a pair of impossibly large garden shears out of some sort of interdimensional pocketbook and gives me a Flock-of-Seagulls haircut while his pet marmot sticks toothpicks under my fingernails in order to make me reveal the secret formula for McDonald's special sauce. Or I should say that I hope I never have to do that again.
I wish I hadn't... mentioned that midget just now.
In my craziest moments... my superiors wonder how I got commissioned.
Believe it or not... I once launched things into space for a living.
If I were super-human... I'd use my x-ray vision for good...really...
More & Less: - more laughter, less moping
- more anything else, less television
- more living in the moment, less worrying about the future
Rules I try to live by: - A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- Don't talk about Fight Club. (At first, it wasn't cliched; then it became so; now it's ok again...)
- No easy lay-ups in the paint.
Additional comments:
My (ir)relevant information: I'm a major in the US Air Force. In the last twelve years I've lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lompoc, California; Great Falls, Montana; Santa Maria, California; Alexandria, Virginia; and now, Leavenworth, Kansas.
