How does one place a technic plate such that it places with a vertical

Well, I apologize for answering my own post, but here's what I found and thought
was worth sharing in case anyone else has this problem:

First, lego.com actually admits there are such faults with the program sometimes
not being able to connect pieces in ways they could be in real life.

Second, in the case of connecting railroad wheel trusses to a technic plate,
start with the plate, flip it over, then bring in the connector plate with the
pin, flip that over, and set it down.  For me, this finally made the plate
connect the way I wanted.  After adding all the wheels I wanted, I then used the
select all function to flip the entire model over, making it upright.

Anyhoo... It might not be the only way to deal with this issue, but it is one
way to.

Cheers,
-Hendo

I, too, find that I just can't make pieces connect in LDD like they're supposed
to.  When this happens, I'll build up part of the model in LDD and then save as
a .LDR file. Then using MLCAD (in LDraw), I fix the stuff that didn't work in
LDD and, if I want to order it from Factory, bring the model back to LDD and
clean it up.  There are some glitches in this process - certain things (colors,
pieces) don't carry well between LDD and MLCAD, but it at least allows accurate
piece placement.
