Welcome to the Imperial City of Brunswick

Coat of Arms

Introduction

LEGOA (pronounced LEG-OH-AH), which is the Pacific Indiginous name for a string of islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Brunswick is the political union of the LEGOA Islands. It is the size roughly of a large City or a small county. Its head of state is an Emperor, and there are also 2 smaller kingdoms, an autonomous duchy, and an autonomous principality that are subject to the Emperor.

It is physically made up of 2 larger islands; Legoa Island in the east (which is contains most of the Imperial Holdings and the Kingdom of Wembly), Sunny Island in the west (Kingdom of Avon and the Duchy of Buckingham), there are islands in between them in the middle of the Island Chain...these are joined together in a political union called, the Principality of Sommerset.

Political Divisions

The Island Chain of Legoa is so small it is the size of a metropolitan city. It is governed by an Emperor, who is basicly only a Mayor. The Emperor’s colors are RED and YELLOW. His symbol is the RED LION (see above).

The city is further divided into political divisions called Wards or Districts. Each ward is run by an Administrator, who is responsible ONLY to the Emperor. Some wards also have nominal independence, but all of these are vassals, directly or indirectly to the Emperor....these nominal “rulers” are the administrative representatives of their respective wards.

Downtown - also called Brunswick Proper. It is located on the West side of Legoa Island. This ward contains the City Hall, Imperial Palace, the main hospital, and some other prominant buildings. The administrator of this ward is the Mayor of the Imperial Palace. His other title is Deputy Mayor. This Ward is part of Imperial Land.

Stratford - Located on the Northwest side of Sunny Island. It contains several houses, and considered a residential only ward. The Administrator is a Duke, who is the vassal of the King of Avon.

Buckingham - Located on the Northeast side of Sunny Island. It contains the Egyptian Museum, the Train Museum, and the Fire Truck Museum, as well as a still in operation Gold Mine. Since there is a Gold Mine here, there is also some financial operations here. The Administrator is an Independant Duke, whose colors are Green and White. His symbol is the Black Falcon.

Wembly - Located in North side of Legoa island. It contains the historical cathedral, private school, historical castle, Wembly Midieval Town, and the Wembly Stadium. Note: there are no cars allowed in Wembly’s town, but there is a parking garage outside the town, and there is train service to the town. The Administer is the King of Wembly. His colors are Blue and White. His symbol is the large Blue Lion.

Westminster - Located in Western side of Sunny Island. This contains a healty commercial area, and also the seat of government of the King of Avon. The King of Avon’s colors are Red and White. His symbol is a large Red Lion.

Windsor - Located in South Sunny Island. This contains more residential housing. It also contains a few farms for agricultural purposes. The administrator is a Duke, who is a vassal of the King of Avon.

Summerset - Located in the middle of the Island chain, made up of several really tiny islands. It contains very few inhabitants, as they have moved to larger more agreeable homes in the western part of the Island Chain. It does contain some Tourism to attract the International Travellers or those who are just on holidays. The Administrator is a Prince, who is the tribal head of the indiginous people still on the island. His symbol is the “Tribal Mask”.

Heathrow - Located in the Eastern side of Legoa Island. It only contains the International Airport and Space Center. Its Administrator is the Imperial Air Marshal. This Ward is Imperial Land.

Kensington - Located in Southwestern side of Legoa Island. It only contains the main Harbor/Seaport of the Empire. Its Administrator is the Lord of the Admiralty. This Ward is Imperial Land.

Grenwhich - Locoated in the Southeastern side of Lego Island. It contains only the Industrial sector of the Legoan Islands. The Administrator is the Minister of the Interior. This Ward is Imperial Land.

History of Legoa

Legoa was a haven for native islanders (called the Legoan tribe) until the year 1450. It was that year that Chinese Raiders attacked and subdued the Legoan tribe...mercilessly slaughtered them until only a few families remained, settled mainly in the central coastline of Sunny Island and in the tiny Isles of present day Sommerset.

Fortunately, the Chinese failed to bring a lot of people to reinforce their new colony....what has remained is a limited number of people of Chinese desent, and also a few land marks - namely the Mandarin Manor, which is being used as the Mayor’s Palace complex.

Chinese had peace and allowed the natives to continue to settle in the sunny isle region and on the archipelago, but at the cost of a yearly tribute. Chinese ruled for 150 years on the island region until Frankish Crusaders attacked (who gained the seafaring technology from neighbouring Vikings) and subdued the northern chinese settlement and thereby annexing the whole of the island. St. Mary’s Church was constructed as was Memorial Hall (City Hall) in downtown to commerate Frankish Victory. (Memorial Hall was Unfortunately razed and totally destroyed as a results of the Anglo-American invasion) It was subsequently rebuilt.

Their Allies, the Spanish, sent 1 vessel, the Santa Maria as a gift for Frankish Success. The Franks also built a fortified villiage, near memorial Hall. When the Anglo-Americans took over, they kicked out the Franks, and installed the district governors there.

The Franks also constructed a large fortress in the northern region Sunny Isle, to keep a good watch over Native Legoan activity, a “limited presence” of Chinese were allowed continue to live in the downtown area, but moved out of the palace and not in the frankish villiage. The Chinese lived in an adjacent villiage for them. Throughout the years, with funding, the island chain, with Chinese help have renovated the Chinese villiage into a viable downtown core.

The Franks had peace on the island until the great fire of 1699, which was followed by the plague of 1700, and which was followed by the Chinese-Native Rebellion of 1701. The Franks also failing to keep a strong presence on the still unimportant island, failed to quell the Rebellion, and in 1702 had English PeaceKeepers land on the Island to settle the dispute...

After several attempts to mediate the dispute, and failing to achieve a viable cease-fire to both sides, and also a parties from both sides were beginning to dislike the foreign presence...decided to assasinate the key negotiators...with the killing of its diplomats, the English had no choice but to annex the island in order to restore any kind of order.

In 1778, Americans succeeded from the English, and in 1835, raided Island of Legoa...English Diplomats successfully made a peace treaty with the increasingly powerful Americans. (English-puppet) Governor allowed American settlers to settle in Sunny Island....

Also in the treaty it stated that English and Americans would jointly protect the island...Americans would construct an Army Fort on the north side of the island called Fort John Smith. They would also construct a Naval Fortress on the south end of the island called Nelson Naval Battery. English were responsible for building for their Imperial British Navy, the Imperial Fortress of Victoria (in Westminster Ward), Fortress of Somerset (in the central chain of Islands), and Stratford Fortress.

American settling on North Sunny Island suited the English fine....they, the English (Anglos) mainly settled in the Southern Region of Sunny Isle, while the Frankish Decendants were moved to the North Eastern Region of Legoa Island living in a moderate sized villiage there, with lieutenant-governors of each region living in the old frankish villiage, by Memorial Hall. The Island Natives still stayed in Central Sunny Isle and on Summerset.

In order to prevent a wide-scale civil war from breaking out again, a huge police force was created. In 1856, English and Americans renewed their treaty, and decided to joinly control the island. In 1921, the English and Americans gave independance to Island, and the ruling governor became Lord Mayor....

That was Lord Malcolm I (the Great). His son, Lord Malcolm II (the Strong) succeeded him as Lord Mayor in 1964...republicans are urging him to issue out a liberal constitution for the island, but he has yet to do so...in 1991, he issued (on his own free will) a charter of freedoms, which pleased a lot of people...

Anglo-American Culture is previlant everywhere on the Island. Most of the Islanders drive in nice cars, are able to take the train around the island, to see a football game (soccer) at the state-of-the-art stadium, or able to take a romantic boat ride around the island. More prominent citizen’s can fly from the International Airport, which also allows a strong foreign tourist base.

A few other landmarks left by the Anglo-Americans, who are still in control of the island are the Egyptian Historical Museum (with commemorative statue) in order to commemorate WWI and II victory. The Wembly Castle was built jointly by the Anglo-Americans to commemorate 1900 Imperialism - Anglos had prominence over the Boers in the Boer Was (South Africa) and Americans had prominence over the Spanish in Spanish-American War. To further celebrate victory over the Spanish, American soldiers on the island (at Fort Smith) wear pre- world war I uniforms. The Navy wears colonial naval costumes in memory of the British Victory over the Boers in South Africa.

Another interesting landmark is the Brunswick Train Museum right near the Egytian Museum and in the Buckingham District (same district as Fort John Smith is in). It displays interesting train pieces that have marked Legoan History. For a small fee, tourists can ride the two special museum trains (they run on a perpetual basis from 10:00 am in the morning until 4:00 pm in the afternoon. There is a snack bar at the Train Museum. The Train Museum was once the Legoan Central railway main station until the Japanese bombed (a stray Japanese Bomber) a portion of it....a contingent of workers comprised of natives, chinese, and franks rebuilt it, while the military built a more central station downtown.
