Hampton Roads Mindstorms Users Group (HRMUG)

The Hampton Roads Mindstorms™ User Group (HRMUG) is a club dedicated to fans of the coolest toy ever: the Lego Mindstorms Robotics Invention System™.

Hampton Roads is the commercial term for the collection of cities in SE Virginia.

Meeting Announcement

The first HRMUG meeting will be held on Saturday, January 26 from 2 PM until 4 PM

The location is the Pretlow Public Library, Norfolk VA (Directions Below)

My Own Creation (MOC) Bring your MOCs to show off to other Mindstorms™ and Lego™ enthusiasts. Share ideas! Show Off! Display area and information sheets will be provided. Vote for your favorites!

Trigonometric Racers (2:15 PM) Learn more about this design challenge contest for all skill levels to be held in March. See a sample contest area. Test your robots!

Design Discussion (2:30 PM) Join this informal discussion on Mindstorming for builders short and tall, with a general focus on building for the Trigonometric Racers Challenge.

Bring Your Own Bricks (BYOB) (3:00 PM) Get help building a robot that will be able to complete the “easy” level of the Trigonometric Racers Challenge. Build at your own pace, ask questions of the ‘experts’.

My Own Creation Awards (3:30) Winners of the MOC voting will be announced. Winners (and their builders) get their photo in the newsletter!

All Mindstormers 12 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We can’t be responsible for lost or stolen items, so please keep an eye on your bricks!

Directions to Pretlow Library:

From all points west of Norfolk: Take I-64 East. After going through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, look for the second exit (4th View/Ocean View). Take this exit. At the end of the ramp take a left onto 4th View. Continue with the “From 4th View” directions provided below.

From all points in and east of Norfolk: Take I-64 West. The second exit past the Granby Street exit is 4th View/Ocean View. Take this exit. At the end of the ramp, take a right onto 4th View. Continue with the directions below.

From 4th View: 4th view ends in about 1/8 mile at a light. Take a right at this light onto W. Ocean View Ave. Immediately upon taking the right, you’ll see an Exxon station. Just past this station is a ramp. Get on the ramp, which will deposit you back onto W. Ocean View Ave. Continue on W. Ocean View for no more than 1 mile and take a right turn on Granby Street. Immediatly after turning on Granby, turn right into the Pretlow parking lot.
