This guide will help you define how the universe your creation exists in affects the final appearance.

After your own vision, the three greatest influences on the look and operation of a MOC are: Technology, Society and Politics. Consider the answer to these questions and how they would affect to look of your MOC:

TECHNOLOGY
What power source is most common?
What power source does your MOC use?
Have Faster-Than-Light drives been invented?
Have Near-Light drives been invented?
What propulsion is used (if any)?
Has artificial gravity been invented?
Has inertial gravity been implemented?
Have matter-energy transporters been invented?
What is the primary hull material? What color is that material?
Is there a functional use for paint or color on the MOC? e.g. Heat shielding, low radar profile, etc.
What materials are available for view ports or canopies? How large an expanse can it support in vacuum or high velocity?
What are the maintenance requirements?
Is it designed specifically for a certain class of planet? e.g.. Gas Giant, predominantly aquatic, lacking atmosphere.
Is the MOC capable of atmospheric flight and/or landing?
Is the MOC atmospherically sealed against vacuum or harsh climate?
Is crew air recycled or carried in tanks?
Is the MOC capable of docking with, landing on, or acting as a landing platform for other MOC(s)?
What kinds of sensors does it use?
Have sentient robots and computers been invented?
What kind of shielding does it use to protect against radiation, micro-meteors, and/or attacks?
What kind of telecommunication technology is it equipped with?
Is it armed with weapons?
If so, what kind?

SOCIETY
Is it armed with weapons legally?
Does it function in any illegal capacity?
How far from modern Western aesthetics does your MOC’s aesthetics vary? Has it changed over time? Is it based on Eastern or Third World aesthetics? Is it alien?
Is it a commercial, scientific, military or ‘other’ MOC?
What is the social status of this MOC, it’s mission and it’s crew?
Have sentient alien races been discovered?
Are aliens integrated into mainstream society or are they segregated?
Are robots viewed as people or as property and tools?
What is a robot’s duty in this MOC?
Are views of open space enjoyable or are they disconcerting?
Do passengers/crew demand comfort, or does efficiency dictate small crew space?
Which presents a better image to the crew/general populous: a clean and stylish MOC or an easy-to-maintain, utilitarian MOC?

POLITICS
What organizational structure does the crew use?
To whom does their leader answer?
Who funds this MOC?
Who built it?
Does an extreme economic climate effect this MOC and it’s crew?
Does war or political strife effect this MOC and it’s crew?
Are there established codes for demarcation of origin or licensing? e.g.. flags, VIN numbers, interstellar shipping numbers, ship class, hazmat markings, etc.
Does the MOC operate in a disputed area? e.g. trade blockade, DMZ, new colonies, etc
