 Primo /

The LEGO baby-age toys were originally called LEGO DUPLO Baby. Later they got their own brand, called LEGO PRIMO. In the year 2000(?) that name was dropped in the United States because it was feared to have a negative association with the word “preemie”, or, premature baby. It was replaced with simply, LEGO BABY. To make things even more confusing, in the year 2002, the LEGO Company combined DUPLO and BABY/PRIMO, calling them EXPLORE and emphasizing their educational qualities in special marketing. That lasted only a few years. Currently, “BABY” is the word once again, and the brand is defined as being for ages 1-18 months.

In 2005(?) a new brand was launched for ages 1-3 years, called LEGO QUATRO which has a different geometry, being 8x the size of LEGO DUPLO bricks. LEGO QUATRO has its own discussion area here at LUGNET where you can find out more.

The yellow elephant, traditional mascot of the Primo brand, has now turned blue and moved to the LEGO QUATRO logo. LEGO BABY has a new Teddy-bear representative.

Because there have been so many changes in brand name of the baby-age toys, it can be a little hard to navigate the sets fully in the LUGNET LEGO Sets Database. Here then is a little help, though not all of these searches are complete:

From the LUGNET LEGO Sets Database:
Special Things: (under construction)
Featured sets:

A favorite for generations, The Bendy Caterpillar has been re-released many times, including set numbers 1457, 2021, 2097, 5432, and 5465.

Re: Does the Primo elephant have a name?

(...) Yeah, I found that source too. For some reason, "Amy" is in my head as the correct answer, though I have no way of verifying it. I tried searching the web for mascots at the Legoland parks, thinking like maybe there'd be a caption for someone (...) (19 years ago, 23-Apr-06, to lugnet.primo)

Re: Does the Primo elephant have a name?

(...) At first, I thought, oh I know this one... Elton, Elmer and Edward Elephant but then I realised that was Fabuland... So... I'm not sure, but if I had to guess (like if someone was holding a match under a box of red bricks)... I would say "Amy" (...) (19 years ago, 21-Apr-06, to lugnet.primo)
