Grace Gentleheart
| | Grace is one of the most promising future Healers of her generation. She has a keen mind that leads to a swift understanding of her studies, and a kind heart that is a joy to her teachers. In the flight to the Wild Forest, Grace was needed to help the annihilated ranks of the Healers. She aided the ornery Healer Clemency, as he tended to the injured and ill. Because of her work with Clemency, Grace was exposed to more of the darkness of the journey than the others her age that stayed in the wagons.
Although he disapproved of the decision to bolster the Healers numbers with mere children, Clemency never showed his irritation in front of Grace. He was nicer to the girl than many that knew him would have believed, Clemency did not treat her as a hindrance, but a welcome student. With Clemency’s mentoring, Grace leaned much about taking care of injuries and illnesses, and the different properties of the plants they saw on the journey. She had a compassionate demeanor that made her a favorite of the patients, especially when compared with her teacher’s outward disposition.
It was not despite, but because of her young age that Grace was chosen to be a member of the Brown Council. As she is the future liaison between the Council and the Healer, there is much that Grace must learn to be able to serve well. Grace is being trained by many of the best Foresters in the different areas she must become proficient in.
Clemency insists on continuing his instruction of Grace despite the fact that she is currently under the guidance of experts in each area of healing. After his advice, Grace has decided not to completely ignore the aspects of healing that do not involve dealing directly with the injured, but instead to give each job a Healer would do equal study for now. Later, she will focus on her preferred area of Healing, once she has the understanding of all parts of Healing that her role will require.
It will be a few more years before Grace is given the full privileges of a Brown Council member. As she is rather shy with anyone other than Clemency, Grace has yet to interact in the few discussions that she was allowed to partake in. Honora has noticed Grace’s unease with the Council, and is beginning to try and make her feel more at home.
